Devprayag

Devprayag: The Godly confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi giving rise to the holy "Ganga". On the way to Srinagar, Garhwal from Rishikesh, we reached this mesmerizing confluence. In Uttarakhand, there are five 'prayags' popularly known as 'Panch Prayag'. In the descending flow sequence of their occurrence, they are Vishnuprayag, Nandaprayag, Karnaprayag, Rudraprayag, and Devprayag.

The Holy Ganga – a river that is a lifeline to most parts of Northern India and one of the most important rivers in Indian culture. One of the major water sources of river Ganga “Bhagirathi” rises at the foot of Gangotri Glacier at Gomukh in Uttarakhand. But, it’s Devprayag where the river Bhagirathi and Alaknanda meet and form the Holy Ganga.

The contrast between the two rivers joining here is striking. The Bhagirathi runs down a steep declivity with rapid force, roaring and foaming flowing over large fragments placed in its bed, while the placid, Alakananda, flowing, with a smooth, unruffled surface, gently winds around the point till, meeting with her turbulent consort, she is forcibly hurried down, and unites her clamors with the blustering current.
